ABOUT ME

Hello..

This won't be your usual about me.. so if you want usual stuff go here ..

I was born on 27th of July 1977. in Croatia. It's a small country in the middle of the Europe at the Adriatic sea.

I had amazing childhood where I was able to explore different things like freedom by chasing butterflies around vineyards and woods, catching the first snowflakes in the wind and trying to beat fishes in holding my breath under the waves of Adriatic. In that time I realised I love to learn about.. well.. everything.. I was interested in anything and everything. Learning differently about anything I could get my hands on, to be honest.

Starting school was a major shift in my life. Like in anyone's, I suppose. But for me, it was very hard as the school system in Croatia is very strict, rigged and stern. Not that we didn't have fun but learning was simply sitting in the chair learning things by repetition in the same order that was given to us in the books.
I'm driven.. like truly driven when I like something.. and I loved learning. So I was parallax.. loved learning but hated the school.. loved the creativity but had nowhere to express it.

At university, I found love for teaching, love for helping others and love for exploring how I can bring closer something I knew to someone else. Changing majors I finished as the master in education for maths and physic at the PMF - Department of Mathematics in 2006.
Chance had it I decided to try my ideas in IT business.

And ended up at this small private company that was having its own ERP (Enterprise resource planning)
software for construction, Carpio d.o.o. There I was head of education for 7,5 years. I was working with a different profile of people inside and outside of the company. I had to learn different languages of different department and different companies I was educating how to use the software. It was completely different world from university, lecturing and maths or physic but not so different in transferring the knowledge. Methods were the same and I learned how to use them in completely new way. As the internet grew stronger and our clients were expending we reached the halt. Mayor question was. How do we actually educate all those ppl who don't have time, are in different places on Earth, are in different time zones and what is very important follow their progress in education and measure their knowledge? The project of Carpio Web Academy was born.

As a teacher and lecturer, I loved the Moodle platform straight away. Loved the possibility it gave me for modifying it to our needs, so I decided to go with it. The second thing we had to decide was the resources, the form and the volume. Camtasia was obvious choice along with pdf, video lectures and later animations.
Along with that, I developed a completely new model of learning online that is based on the following individual every student that goes through the academy giving it its own role in the education process that corresponds to the business role in its own company. That way we were able to monitor the progress of computerization of the client. The roles could be customised and the company would be fully computerised by the end of the education. The length of education varies from 3 to 6 weeks.
Yes.. you read that right.. weeks. Not months or years but weeks. Anyone who ever tried to computerise a company size more than 100 people knows the problem no matter what side of the project he was involved in.
After almost 38 courses, more than 2500 resources, more than 5000 question in moodle question bank, 2 years of making and 2 years of extensive use and trying of the model, this project was introduced to the academic world through my postgraduate theses in 2012. at Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Zagreb.
That experience revealed my love for photography so in the same year (2012.) I finished a course in photography at Public open University Zagreb.

2 years later I found myself in old/new surroundings of university when I joined University College Algebra as an assistant lecturer and instructional designer. I have learned so much there. The new tools of instructional design, new techniques and ideas that made it a great experience. Worked at few amazing EU project like IPA4.1.3.2.02.01.c06 “Slatko, ali zdravo/ sweet, but healthy" as leading expert, IPA 4.1.3.1.06.01.c02 Development of ICT curricula, qualifications and program elements in primary education” as a part of the team and also in numerous ongoing eLearning projects for Algebra.
In spring of 2014. trough Erasmus programme I was teaching in Dundalk Institute of technology at the department of computing and mathematics and also became a lecturer in social sciences field economy in 2015.

After 2 amazing years, I decided to leave Algebra and work with them as an associate and explore further by returning to basic and spending few months teaching in school and freelancing in instructional design and now mostly instructional design.

Trough my work in last few years got interested in dyslexia and how people learn in different ways and see things differently as my daughter is dyslexic. It helped me to look at ID in a different more creative way not only as making nice resources but as a tool in making people engage, focused on what is important to us as educators and learn it. Sometimes most obvious things are not so obvious to everyone and they need a little direction.
We all do in our lives.

New project always interests and inspire me. Best ideas come out of small things (usually under shower or sea).
It is the nature that inspires and human spirit that makes it happen as we are creators of whatever our mind can imagine.

We are as young as we want to be and different and unique as we allow our self to be.

Namaste.
